With summer approaching, Medina Police are reminding dog owners of some important details.

To ensure the enjoyment of all park patrons, people should keep a watchful eye on their dog while using the designated off-leash portion of Medina Park, police say. In addition, all pet waste must be picked up and disposed of in a proper receptacle or removed from the park.

Officers will be enforcing park rules as outlined in Medina Municipal Code Chapter 12.24.

Police also advise people to make sure their pet has a collar and an I.D. tag that contains updated contact information.

If the pet has a microchip, people should be sure the microchip company has their current contact information as well.

Even pets who spend most of their time indoors have found themselves away from home, police note. Having an updated I.D. tag and microchip greatly increases their chance of a safe return.

Also, pets need to have a current city of Medina animal license and their registration needs to be updated with any new contact numbers. People who want to verify their current registration or make an update can contact Medina City Hall at 425-233-6400.

Police also ask that people be respectful of their neighbors and not allow a dog to roam unattended. Animals that are not leashed or are found to be without an owner nearby may be considered a nuisance, and the owner may be subject to penalties as outlined in Medina Municipal Code Chapter 6.04.
