Instead of lounging around and soaking up the sun during summer vacation, fifteen members of the 2009 Newport High School Varsity Football Team spent a day in early August shoveling dirt for the Bellevue Jubilee Reach Center. The team members participated in the annual Knights Give Back community service project on August 8, donating their time and muscles for a good cause.
The Jubilee REACH Center is located in the Lake Hills neighborhood and serves the community through educational, emotional, and spiritual enrichment.
This year’s Knights Give Back project was coordinated by Newport Football Captains Ross Quarré and Alex Kairis and was overseen by Jubilee Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor Bill Gill.
Head Coach Mike Miller and Coach Bob Richardson worked with the players to help spruce up the grounds of the Jubilee Reach Center. Together they removed a mound of dirt adjacent to the playground and relocated it to the parking lot where they filled in and leveled a low spot. They then graveled over it to make a useful parking area.
The team members also helped trim trees and shrubs and hit the ground for some much needed weeding.
