State championships concluded over the weekend for the prep spring season and Bellevue, Interlake, Newport, Forest Ridge and Bellevue Christian each returned with hardware.
Tennis
Michelle Lui won her first state title as a freshman in 2011 and repeated that feat in last weekend, winning both games in each of her four matches to capture the 1B/2B/1A state title for the second straight year.
Newport duo Angela Chen and Amie Vo swept through each of their four matches en route to the 4A girls doubles title, finishing with a win over Kamiak’s Alyssa and Jenna Gilbert.
The Knights had two doubles teams reach the semi-finals on the boys side, but both Chris Lilley and Dylan Harlow and Alec Tsutsumoto and Andrew Choi lost and faced one another in their final match, with Lilley and Harlow capturing third place.
Allen Kim and Matt Sham lost their first match of the day before storming back to win three in a row, including the fifth place match.
Those efforts were also enough to give Newport the team scoring title.
It was all Interlake in the 2A boys singles bracket as the Saints’ Connor Garnett and Luat Le were both perfect through the first three matches and faced one another in the title match.
As he did in the South Puget Sound League final, Garnett came out with the win, 2-0 over his teammate and defending state champion Le.
Zach Kosanke was the only Wolverine in the field and captured the 3A boys singles title with four straight wins.
Only Jordan Smith of Mercer Island managed to take a game from Kosanke, who won seven of the eight he played in the tournament.
Interlake’s Isabelle Long split her first two matches before defeating Miriam Tuma of Sumner in the fourth place match of the 2A girls singles bracket.
Joe Motto and Eric Radoi made it all the way to the title match before falling to Daniel Yu and Josh Rasmus of Washington 2-0.
Track and field
Bellevue ran away with the team scoring on the boys side, besting second-place Lakes by 20 points.
The Wolverines took home titles in the 400 meter relay, 1,600 meter relay and also took two of the top three spots in the shot put with Mitchell Stuart and Mike Kneip.
Kamiakin won the team scoring in 3A for the girls. Bellevue finished with eight team points.
Interlake finished in a tie for 11th on the girls side in 2A with River Ridge while North Kitsap brought home the team scoring title. The Saints finished in a three-way tie for ninth on the boys side. Ephrata won the title.
Jordan Todd won the 100 meter dash for Interlake in 10.84 seconds and also finished second in the 200.
Summer Hanson took the 800 on the girls side by nearly three full seconds.
Bellevue Christian’s run atop the state ended in 1A, as the BCS girls finished in fourth place.
Bree Oldham captured her third straight 300 meter hurdles title, the fourth consecutive for the Oldham family. The Vikings also woin the 1,600 meter relay.
