Bellevue Police on the trail of a trio of romantically involved suspected mail thieves and burglars ended up saving the life of an Issaquah resident last week.
Officers were searching an Issaquah residence belonging to a suspected burglar linked to several Eastside break-ins when they were advised that a male resident of the neighboring apartment was in cardiac arrest.
Two Bellevue Police detectives rushed to retrieve a defibrillator from their vehicle and administer CPR on the victim, who regained a pulse just as medics arrived.
The detectives’ quick response is being credited with saving the man’s life.
The series of events began when police apprehended one suspected mail thief and uncovered a group of mail thieves and burglars who reportedly also had romantic ties.
The primary mail thief suspect — who had rammed a Bellevue Police officer’s patrol car during his escape on March 12 — led police to a female accomplice who was likely responsible for many burglaries in the region. The 23-year-old woman was arrested in the International District of Seattle, and was found in possession of stolen property from recent burglaries in Issaquah and Bainbridge Island.
The woman, in turn, implicated the Issaquah suspect during questioning. That suspect turned around and identified a fourth suspect — a 28-year-old Bainbridge Island man who had also fought with a cab driver and ran from Bellevue Police earlier that week after a suspected burglary.
The foot pursuit of that suspect can be seen in the video above.
Three of the four suspects were reportedly romantically involved, according to police.
Detectives are forwarding several charges to the King County Prosecutor for consideration, including burglary, possession of stolen property, and eluding police.
