Fifty high-school students from King and Snohomish counties will compete March 10 in Bellevue College’s Central Sound Regional Science and Engineering Fair.

The public is invited to view the projects and submit their votes for the “People’s Choice Award” from 1-3 p.m., March 10 in Bellevue College’s gymnasium. Attendees will see several science and engineering demonstrations on topics such as static electricity, boat building and identifying rocks and minerals.

The college’s resident bug expert will entertain with presentations like “Beetle Tractor Pull.”

The participants have spent months conducting research, either individually or in teams of two, in one of 17 science, math and engineering categories. Projects will be evaluated for creativity, depth of content, thoroughness, clarity and other criteria by local science and engineering professionals.

Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at 3 p.m. This student, whose project earns the highest overall score will win an all-expense-paid trip to represent the central Puget Sound region at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh, Penn., May 13-18.
