Wake Surfing Tournament coming to Lake Sammamish this weekend

Wake surfers from around the country and some from Canada will converge on Lake Washington this weekend.

Wake surfers from 11 states and a pair of Canadian provinces will converge on Lake Sammamish this Friday for the Third Annual Northwest Wake Surf Association Open. The three-day tournament will have a field of 75 competitors, including several of the top wake surfers in North America.

The president of the NWWSA, Grace Stanton, said in a press release that the sport has been taken to new heights recently with technological developments that have improved boards and helped develop specifically designed wake surfing boats.

“Lake Sammamish and the Northwest Wake Surf Open have really become a destination event for many of the best competitors in the country,” Stanton said.

The event begins today with practice runs for the competitors and continues through Sunday at Sunset Beach in Lake Sammamish State Park.

In addition to a first hand look at top wake surfers from around the US and Canada, spectators can enjoy food and vendor tents and a “tie-up” party on Saturday afternoon for boaters to watch from the water.
