Local athletes earn All-state sports honors

The All-state selections for baseball, softball and boys soccer, as voted upon by a poll of the state’s reporters, have been released.

Matt Boyd of Eastside Catholic was the Bellevue-area’s lone 1st-team All-state selection for Class 3A baseball. Boyd, a junior, was 8-1 for the Crusaders this season. Eastside Catholic was 20-3 this season and was favored to make a state run before stunning losses in the Metro League tournament.

Boyd’s teammate Cal Towey, the Crusaders senior starting shortstop, was selected to the 2nd-team.

Bellevue Christian shortstop Kyle Taylor was selected to the 1st-team All-state team for Class 1A. Teammate Jeremy Bohnett, an outfielder, was tabbed as an honorable mention pick.

Newport’s Stacey Hagensen was picked as a 2nd-team All-state softball selection for Class 3A. Hagensen, a right-hander, was a key component of the Knights run to the state tournament this season.

Becca King of Bellevue Christian earned 2nd-team honors in Class 1A.

No Bellevue-area athletes were named to the All-state soccer teams.
