Bellevue takes second place
The Bellevue Wolverines earned second place at the Class 3A Sea-King District II track championships on May 20 in Seattle. The Wolverines tallied 81 team points, falling just one team point short of first place Bishop Blanchet, who finished with 82 total points. Will Swanson (shot-put) and Tyson Penn (high jump, long jump, triple jump) captured first place finishes at the meet.
GIRLS TRACK
Penner earns first place finish
Bellevue senior Katherine Penner cruised to a first place finish in the 3200 meters, clocking a time of 10:49.9. at the Class 3A Sea-King District II Championships on May 20 in Seattle.
GOLF
Bellevue captures second place
The Bellevue Wolverines girls golf team nabbed second place at the Class 3A Sea-King District II girls golf tournament, compiling 45.5 team points on May 17. Mercer Island won the tournament, tallying 63.5 total team points. Bellevue golfer Julia Dai nabbed first place, shooting a 75 on the 18-hole course. Interlake’s Delaney Douglas finished in fifth place with an 80. Interlake golfer Katie Kester earned a 10th place finish, shooting a 83. Bellevue’s Susie Park finished in 12th place individually and Bellevue’s Audrey Laura finished in 16th place.
Sammamish trio will compete in Class 2A state meet
Sammamish Totems boys golfers Matt Brooks, Aiden Thain and Ryan Park will compete in the Class 2A state golf tournament this week at Horn Rapids Golf Course in Richland. Spencer Furman will be an alternate at the tourney.
BASEBALL
Selah defeats Sammmamish
Selah nabbed a 4-0 win against the Sammamish Totems in the first round of the Class 2A state baseball playoffs on May 22 at Selah High School in Selah. The Totems finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 4-21.
WATER POLO
Newport nabs second place
The Gig Harbor Tides defeated the Newport Knights 9-2 in the 2016 Puget Sound Girls Water Polo Regional 1 tournament on May 21. The Knights, who captured second place at regionals, tallied victories against Stadium, Roosevelt at regionals. The Knights will be the No. 2 seed from Region 1 at the state tournament this weekend.
Bellevue clinches berth at state
The Bellevue Wolverines defeated the Mercer Island Islanders 8-2, earning third place in the 2016 Puget Sound Girls Water Polo Regional 1 tournament. The Wolverines captured victories against Bainbridge Island, Wilson and Mercer Island at the tourney. Bellevue’s only loss came against the Gig Harbor Tides.
SOFTBALL
Bellevue Christian earns berth in state tourney
The Bellevue Christian Vikings defeated Coupeville on May 20 in a winner-to-state, loser-out West Central District III 1A playoff game on May 20 at Sprinker Recreation Center in Tacoma. Bellevue Christian (13-6) will face the Cle Elum-Roslyn Warriors in the first round of the Class 1A state playoffs at 10 a.m. on May 27 in Richland. It is the first time the Vikings have advanced to the state tournament in the past 10 years.
Totems season ends at districts
The Sammamish Totems memorable 2016 season came to a close at the 2016 Class 2A West Central/SeaKing district tournament in Tacoma. The Sequim Wolves defeated Sammamish 5-2 in a loser-out game on May 23. The Totems went 2-2 at the tournament, registering wins against Tyree and Franklin Pierce but suffered losses to White River and Sequim. The Totems finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 10-15.
