The Seattle Seahawks will defend a Super Bowl title for the first time in 2014, and Thursday they signed a former 3A state champion from Bellevue to help them do just that.

Steve Schilling, a standout during his time as a Wolverine both at Bellevue and Michigan, and sixth round draft pick of the San Diego Chargers was signed by the hometown Seahawks the team announced.

He has played in 18 games at left and right guard since entering the NFL in 2011, and signed with the Seahawks as an unrestricted free agent.

A 2006 Bellevue graduate, Schilling was a three-year starter on the line and also averaged a double-double on the basketball court as a junior. Parade Magazine tabbed him an All-American as a senior, and he was rated by Rivals.com as a the second prospect in the state in the Class of 2006. The Wolverines won 3A state football titles in 2002, 2003 and 2004, before falling to Prosser 38-35 in the quarterfinals in 2005.

During his time at Michigan, Schilling earned All Big 10 honorable mention honors during his junior and senior seasons. His first action as a rookie in 2011 came in a preseason game against the Seahawks, an experience he talked about in a Q and A with the Reporter in 2011.
