Hugh E. DeWater died Jan. 17. He was 85.

Mr. DeWater was born in Hutchinson, Kan., graduated from Hutchinson High School and the University of Kansas and served as a P-38 pilot in Europe during WWII.

He married Susan Kaths on June 30, 1945. They moved to Bellevue in 1968 in a transfer with the Boeing Company. He was an engineer with Boeing for nearly 40 years.

He is survived by his children, John and Janet DeWater, Janet DeWater, Nancy and Pat McGough, Susan and Chris Grewe, and by Patty Johnson, Peggy Stern and Jim Kaths; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24 at First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue.
