The 2009 election season got into full swing as the candidates last week filed for various offices. Below is a list of the contestants with local relevance.
BELLEVUE CITY COUNCIL
Vicki Orrico, a member of the Overlake Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees, Bellevue College Board of Trustees, and Bellevue Planning Commission, has filed to run for Position 2. She will have to unseat Conrad Lee, a Chinese immigrant, real-estate entrepreneur, and former engineer who has been on the council for over 14 years.
Patsy Bonincontri will look to retain her spot at Position 4 after being appointed to the post following the resignation of Connie Marshall last year. She is up against Kevin Wallace, a top executive from the Bellevue-based real-estate company Wallace Properties.
Microsoft manager Michael Marchand is a self-described avid runner who could be in for one of his toughest races as he takes on Don Davidson, the longest-serving councilmember and a former Bellevue mayor.
The greatest fundraising disparity so far is between Wallace, whose contributions totaled $35,350 at the Reporter deadline, and Bonincontri, who had $1,720.
There was also a considerable difference between Orrico, who had $25,835, and Lee, who reported $1,560.
BELLEVUE SCHOOL BOARD
Chris Marks will run unopposed to represent District 3. She was appointed in 2004 to fill the position vacated by Steve Miller.
Paul Mills is running for re-election in District 5, taking on Patti Mann.
KING COUNTY EXECUTIVE
Eight candidates will fight it out in this year’s packed King County Executive’s race.
Medina resident Ross Hunter, a state representative since 2003, has entered the contest along with friend and fellow Eastside legislator Fred Jarrett, a Republican-turned-Democratic senator from Mercer Island.
Other candidates with broad name recognition include Larry Phillips, a Seattle native and former state representative who has been with the county council since 1991; Dow Constantine, a member of the county council since 2002; and former KIRO-TV anchor Susan Hutchison, a favorite among conservatives.
Also running are Stan Lippmann, Alan Lobdell, and Goodspaceguy.
Phillips had a clear fundraising lead with $345,460 at the Reporter deadline. Constantine was next with $168,978, followed by Hunter, who had $116,746. Neither Hutchison nor Jarrett had reached the six-figure mark.
METROPOLITAN KING COUNTY COUNCIL
Incumbent Reagan Dunn is trying for another term after represented the 9th District since 2005. He’ll take on Party of Commons Chairman Mark Greene and Beverly Harison Tonda, who lists Facebook.com as her campaign website.
