Perkins-Coie attorney Cyrus Habib, a Rhodes Scholar and former Bellevue College (BC) student, will be the featured speaker at BC’s annual Disability PRIDE celebration Oct. 21.
The public is invited to attend the free event, which will also feature comedian Sam Kanter, a current BC student with disabilities who has appeared at Giggles and the Comedy Underground in Seattle and Laughs in Kirkland.
The program also includes former BC students Diana Pfeifle, and Robert Sternik, both of whom work in management at the Federal Aviation Administration, who will share their personal experiences in living and succeeding as people with disabilities.
The celebration will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the college’s Carlson Theatre, with a reception following in the theater lobby
Habib, who is blind, will speak on the topic, “Striving for Success with a Disability: Rights, Relationships and Respect.”
A resident of Bellevue, Habib is also a member of the Bellevue College Foundation Board of Directors.
The Disability PRIDE celebration this year also honors the Americans with Disabilities Act, which was signed into law 20 years ago, and contributes to the observance of October as National Employment and Disability Awareness Month.
Carlson Theatre is located in the E Building on BC’s main campus (3000 Landerholm Circle S.E., Bellevue, at the intersection of S.E. 28th St. and 148th Ave. S.E.).
