A celebration Saturday will mark the installation of a renovated synthetic turf sports field at Wilburton Hill Park.

The celebration, from 8:30-10 a.m., will include an official “ribbon cutting” at 9 a.m. and will feature interactive lacrosse and soccer demonstrations, youth sports scrimmages, information about some local youth sports programs, and the opportunity to register for several youth sports programs and day camps.

The following organizations will be on hand to provide information and registration opportunities, including Bellevue Youth Sports, Bellevue Girls Lacrosse, Boys and Girls Clubs of Bellevue, Jr. Football, Sammamish Lacrosse Club, and Skyhawks Sports.

Activities include:

8:30 – 10 a.m. – Youth sports information and registration;

8:30 – 9 a.m. – Field play and scrimmages;

9 – 9:15 a.m. – “Ribbon Cutting” celebration;

9:15 – 10 a.m. – Interactive lacrosse and soccer demonstrations.

The new field surface is the first project completed from the 2008 voter-approved parks levy, and will help to satisfy an identified need for more high-quality game fields. Prior to the renovation, the field would turn to uneven mud under pounding cleats. The addition of turf also makes the field usable for youth football and lacrosse.

In addition to the field improvements, a rubberized running track has been added around the perimeter of the field, along with a drinking fountain, and an expanded seating/staging area. The project makes use of an existing lighted field and is located in a park with existing amenities such as parking and restrooms.

The installation of synthetic turf at Wilburton Hill Park was one of two synthetic sports field projects identified as part of the 2008 parks levy approved by Bellevue voters, with a total $3 million allocation. The other field will be converted at Newport Hills Park and its renovation is expected to begin this summer.
Wilburton Hill Park is located at 12400 Main St.
