Connor’s efforts mean new cabs for handicapped kids

Connor Burshears is only 11 years old, but already he is making an impact in his community. He launched “Connor’s Cabs at Camp Korey” to provide transportation for campers around the 818 acres at Camp Korey in Carnation, a medically supervised camp for children with serious and life-threatening illnesses.

He has hosted lemonade stands, bake sales, participated in fundraising events, and approached various Eastside businesses with requests for donations.

His work has paid off.

“Connor’s Cabs at Camp Korey” recently presented Camp Korey with two wheelchair accessible buses with hydraulic power lifts for campers.

When he was 10 a personal tour given by Tom Weed the Director of Development at Camp Korey, inspired him to do his part to help other kids.

Together, the two drove around the camp property in a two-seater golf cart. Connor quickly realized that although the golf cart was a good fit for the two of them, a larger golf cart would be helpful to transport the medically fragile campers from one part of the camp to another.

Connor did some research and discovered golf carts that seat eight, as well as an ambulance golf cart. His goal is to eventually provide Camp Korey with a fleet of golf carts and one day, maybe even an ice cream truck.
