Crews reopened State Route 520 on time this morning after a weekend-long closure. All lanes of SR 520 opened by 4:30 a.m., just in time for the morning commute.
Construction crews demolished the old Bellevue Way Northeast overpass to make room for a new, wider overpass, and installed a fish-friendly culvert just east of Bellevue Way Northeast. The overpass demolition resulted in 650 cubic yards of concrete rubble and more than 92,000 pounds of rebar that will be recycled.
To install the fish-friendly culvert, crews dug a 25-foot-deep trench across all lanes of the highway, inserted precast concrete culvert sections, then repaved the highway. When complete, the culvert will be more than 230 feet long.
