Sammamish one win from state | Prep sports news

Updates from conference soccer tournaments around Bellevue.

Sammamish traveled to Bellingham for its first game in the 2A district 1 soccer tournament, and left one step closer to a state tournament appearance with a 1-0 win over Squalicum.

The Totems, which finished the regular season with a 2-2 tie with fellow 2A foe Lake Washington, will meet Archbishop Murphy on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a winner-to-state game at Everett Memorial Stadium.

The winner of that game will also move to Saturday’s conference final at Cedarcrest, while the loser will need to win a pair of games to earn the final state spot from the district.

Bellevue looking for final spot

Liberty took the regular season championship in 3A KingCo and dropped only a single conference game all year to earn the automatic spot to the 3A state boys soccer tournament. Four teams will play for the final berth to the tournament before meeting a Metro League competitor to decide the district’s last slot.

Bellevue earned the fifth seed to the league tournament with a 1-0 win over Mercer Island, preceded by a 3-2 win over Liberty, in the season’s final week.

The Wolverines will open with Mount Si, which won the only meeting between the two 4-1. That loser-out game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start at Mount Si.

Bellevue Christian will meet Mount Baker at Sammamish on Wednesday in an 8 p.m. start in the 1A tri-district tournament, hoping for one of six spots in the 1A state tournament.
