Residents and others interested in the construction sequence and design for improvements along West Lake Sammamish Parkway can attend an open house Wednesday, June 10.
The event will take place from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at SAMBICA, 4114 W. Lake Sammamish Parkway S.E. Drivers, bikers and walkers are expected to benefit from upgrades to the 5.5-mile long roadway between Interstate 90 and Bellevue’s northern boundary.
The purpose of the open house is to present options for the phased construction of the project in five separate segments based on available funding. Also included will be results from a recent public survey that asked people which of the Parkway segments should be constructed first, along with a staff recommendation. Nearly 200 survey responses were received.
A map showing the five segments will be available at the open house, with estimated timelines, budget needs and project elements such as a multi-use trail, retaining walls, landscaping, and roadway drainage.
Project segments are currently expected to cost roughly $8 million each. The current total budget, sufficient to pay for the final design work and to acquire right of way for the first phase, is $6.56 million.
After the open house, a construction phasing recommendation will be presented to the Transportation Commission for consideration, followed by City Council approval, possibly in July. The design for Phase 1 will be finalized after that.
