Bellevue blasts Ferndale, Baumann rolls Newport back to state | Prep football news

The Wolverines and Knights are each headed to their respective state football tournaments after lopsided district playoff wins.

Bellevue 44 Ferndale 0

The Wolverines wasted little time in their first playoff action on the road to a sixth straight 3A state football title, scoring on the first play from scrimmage on a Budda Baker touchdown run to go up 7-0 and take control of a game that was never in doubt in a 44-0 win over the visiting Golden Eagles.

Sam Richmond added three touchdowns and brother Max another for Bellevue, which faces Glacier Peak in the first round of the state tournament this week at home. The Grizzlies from Snohomish came to Wolverine Way in the district round in 2011, a 28-17 Bellevue win.

Newport 62 Lake Stevens 35

Lake Stevens had no answer for Newport senior running back Connor Baumann, who finished the night with six touchdowns, including scoring romps of 77, 83 and 89 yards, as the Knights trampled 4A Wesco champ Lake Stevens 62-35 on the road to head to next week’s 4A state football tournament.

Coach Mike Miller’s squad, which earned its way to districts with a win over Woodinville last week, will host Bellarmine Prep for a spot in the state quarterfinals.
