A stray beaver needed an escort from the Chick-fil-A parking lot Tuesday night, after the 45-pound aquatic rodent wandered seven blocks from its habitat.
Bellevue Police Officer Seth Tyler said two officers responded to Chick-fil-A on 116th Avenue Northeast, where the beaver was wandering around the restaurant’s landscaping. Police Lt. Andrew Popochock snared the beaver and put in the back of a patrol car.
“The officer actually knew from past calls that there was actually a beaver pond back on the 100 block of 116th Avenue,” Tyler said. “He wandered back down into the water and back home. It’s just a reminder that Bellevue really is a city in a park.”
Tyler said the beaver pond is seven blocks from Chick-fil-A; a trek that would have required crossing Northeast Fourth Street.
“We’re hoping that he used the crosswalk.”
