Frederick S. Barkman of Bellevue died of cancer on September 27, 2009 at his home. He was 79.
Mr. Barkman was born July 29, 1930, in Minneapolis, MN, where he grew up and graduated from the University of Minnesota business and law schools. He served in the U.S. Navy between 1956-1958.
He and his family eventually moved to Bellevue to start a long career in construction finance and mortgage banking, and later, home construction.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Meta, his four children: Frederick Barkman Jr. (Gwyn), Rebecca Koch (Bob), Martha Barkman and Sarah “Sally” Morris (Tom); six grandchildren; and three sisters, Frances Martinson, Elizabeth Johnson, and Florence Arbaugh.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 1934 108th Ave. NE, Bellevue at 2 p.m. Oct. 17. Private interment will be at Sunset Hills Memorial Park.
