Port of Seattle Commissioner Stephanie Bowman teased audience members at Thursday’s Bellevue Chamber of Commerce luncheon with an announcement to be made Friday regarding a cooperative agreement with the Port of Tacoma.
The finer details were withheld Thursday afternoon, but Bowman said both ports can no longer continue to keep trading cargo back and forth between each other and the two commissions came together to find a solution for better operations.
Bowman said the Port of Seattle has been struggling for the past several years with lost business outside the area, such as to the Port of Prince Rupert in British Columbia, which can push shipments through nearly 48 hours faster than either ports of Seattle and Tacoma.
