Fencing and large equipment has arrived at the Puget Sound Energy (PSE) Factoria Service Center, located at 13230 S.E. 32nd St. in Bellevue, where construction has begun for a new, energy-efficient addition.
The new center is anticipated to receive a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Some of the green design features include:
Bioswales – Vegetated retention strips that collect rainwater, filter impurities and allow water to seep slowly back into the soil.
Green roof – A Bellevue first, the roof will be covered with vegetation to absorb greenhouse gases, reduce heating and cooling loads and minimize storm water runoff.
Daylighting – Building openings are oriented to take advantage of natural lighting. Energy-saving task lights will be installed throughout the office space.
Non-toxic furnishings and finishes – Selected for low off-gassing properties to improve indoor air quality.
Under-floor air distribution system – Conditioned air is distributed in an under-floor system, eliminating ducts, reducing fans, and enabling employees to control the temperature at their work stations.
Construction of the addition is expected to be completed in spring 2009.
