Three local youth teams win titles | Community sports news

The Bellevue Wolverines junior football program won Greater Eastside Junior Football Association championships at two levels this past weekend.

Four Bellevue Wolverines junior football teams played in championship games, with three capturing titles.

The Bellevue Wolverines junior football team won the Varsity classification championship on Saturday, avenging the only loss of the season in a 32-6 win over Five Star-Liberty.

At the junior varsity level, it was the Bellevue Wolverines Gold team shutting out Skyline Black 29-0 for the championship to complete an undefeated season. The junior varsity Bellevue Gold squad recorded nine shutouts in 11 games, including two in the playoffs.

Bellevue won the championship at the Rookie level as well, with the White team defeating Bothell 19-12.

The sophomore squad from Wolverines Blue also made the championship game, but fell to Mount Si Grey 32-6, finishing the season with a 9-2 record.

Mount Si was the only other GEJFA program to send more than one team to the championship round.

The Greater Eastside Junior Football Association has programs at every 3A and 4A KingCo high school on the Greater Eastside as well as Bainbridge Island, Cedarcrest and Hazen. Classifications are based on a points system determined by a player’s age (month and year) and weight.
