Bellevue fish broker Kevin D. Steele was sentenced last month to 30 days in jail and fined $160,000 for intentionally mislabeling turbot from China as halibut, which costs more.
The sentence was one of the strongest imposed for such an infraction, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Steele pleaded guilty in November to buying 65 tons of turbot from china and relabeling it as halibut for sale in Texas and Utah.
