While we continue to wait on the Legislature for complete, equitable and sustainable funding of the education system (and other things) in Washington state, school districts will continue to rely on local levy and bond initiatives to maintain our school system. I am the last person to be a cheerleader for every decision made in our schools, but I show up and work for the changes I want to see.

Some have said not to draw attention to the voter’s guide con statement, submitted by the same (local) persons, not only in Bellevue, but in multiple districts around the region. I disagree. Their actions anger me in the extreme, attempting to undermine too many school districts in this underhanded manner.

Overall, Bellevue is a very well run school district. As with any district there are always new issues that need attention. Whether we agree or disagree with decisions, the appropriate method of change is to get involved and informed, and to dialog with the decision makers…pro or con; not, as in this method of dissent, potentially jeopardizing the education of a generation of children.

We are barely climbing out of the hole left by the recession and the district budget cuts of the past several years. Don’t set us up for a do-over. Vote “yes,” “yes,” “yes” for Bellevue schools and mail in your ballot.

And if there is something you don’t like, start showing up and doing something about it in a constructive manner that doesn’t mess with the kids or their education.
