Seattle Jewish Film Festival returns

The AJC Seattle Jewish Film Festival (SJFF) returns for its 15th run March 11. SJFF, the premiere public program of American Jewish Committee Seattle Regional Office (AJC), will present 30 independent Jewish-themed and Israeli films from 10 countries, special events and educational programming.

The festival runs March 11-20.

Many special guests and filmmakers will also be on hand for the festival.

One of them is Scott Goldstein, filmmaker of “Where I stand: The Hank Greenspun Story.” The former KING-TV employee and Emmy Award winning TV producer of THE TODAY SHOW, will be present for the screening.

The film is about a pugnacious and dogged journalist, Greenspun, who seemed to be on the winning side of every battle. The outspoken Greenspun ran guns to the new state of Israel, stood up against Joseph McCarthy, recruited Howard Hughes to buy out the Vegas mob, ended segregation on the Vegas strip and protested nuclear waste dumping in Nevada.

Goldstein combines archival footage with interviews to tell the stranger than fiction story of a life well spent. Narrated by Anthony Hopkins, the film combines archival footage with interviews with gangsters, movie stars, the Greenspun family, “Bugsy” Siegel, Richard Nixon, Shimon Peres and Steve Wynn.

The film will play at March 14 at 3:20 p.m. at SIFF CINEMA AT McCaw Hall in Seattle.
