Last season was memorable for the Bellevue College Bulldogs men’s basketball team.

The Bulldogs, who had five sophomores on the roster, captured fifth place at the Northwest Athletic Conference tournament in 2015. Bulldogs’ sophomore forward Brian Zehr is the only returning player on the hardwood during the 2015-16 season for Bellevue. The Bulldogs lost in the semifinals but battled back through the consolation round to take fifth place. Thus far, the Bulldogs have compiled an overall record of 9-7 in early season action.

“It is different but it is fun at the same time. We have a bunch of different guys. We just come out here and try to compete every day,” Zehr said earlier this season. “It makes it a little more competitive that way.”

Zehr began last season as a reserve but said he cracked the starting lineup toward the end of the season.

“With me being the only returner, I definitely consider myself to be a leader on this team. I show the new guys the ropes and how community college basketball works,” he said.

Zehr said the Bulldogs are adjusting to playing together as one unit.

“The goal is to be competitive throughout the whole year, just play our asses off and see what happens,” he said.

Recently, the Bellevue Reporter had an opportunity to ask Zehr a few questions about his life away from the basketball court.

Bellevue Reporter: What is your favorite movie of all time?

Brian Zehr: “Superbad.” Jonah Hill in the early days was pretty funny.

BR: What is your biggest pet peeve?

BZ: When people drink stuff out of the refrigerator that doesn’t belong to them.

BR: Who was your favorite athlete growing up?

BZ: Kobe Bryant. He had such a great work ethic.

BR: What is something unique about you that nobody would know?

BZ: I have three turtles. Their names are Toad, Frog and Turtle.

BR: Who is your pick to win the Super Bowl in February?

BZ: I’m going to take the Seahawks. They’re going to come back. I think they got a rhythm now and are going to bring it together.

BR: If you could pick one person to go to dinner with, who would it be?

BZ: My mom. She is the only person I love to death.
