Bellevue-based Quadrant Homes has again won Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star status, the highest certification level for on-the-job safety performance and accident prevention. The award is given by the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries.

Quadrant Homes is the only residential building contractor in the state to reach VPP Star status and to maintain the certification for five years.

The VPP Star recognition is the highest certification awarded to businesses that employ exemplary occupational safety and health standards under the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA). To qualify for this prominent award, businesses must demonstrate effectively designed and implemented safety and health programs above and beyond state requirements, as well as demonstrating a safety record below the rate for similar worksites. Star participants are reevaluated every three to five years to ensure they remain worksites that are Star level.

“Quadrant’s safety achievements exemplify safety excellence through management commitment and employee involvement,” said Judy Schurke, director of Washington State Labor and Industries. “Even during an economic downturn, it is apparent that safety remains a primary focus for Quadrant Homes.”

Quadrant Homes’ President Peter Orser accepted the awards on behalf of the company, receiving a plaque to hang at the headquarters and flags to display at Quadrant’s communities.

Quadrant previously won the award in 2005 (recipients are evaluated every three years, not annually) and was the first homebuilder in the nation to receive the prestigious safety recognition.
