A pair of Newport girls teams cracked the WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires spring team academic state championship lists.

The girls tennis team, which will go after state championships on the court May 24 and 25 in Richland, has already earned one state title after being named academic state champions with a team GPA of 3.925.

The Knights also earned the distinction in girls golf with a GPA of 3.862. That team also won the 4A KingCo title on the course and will have three competitors, Jessica and Monica Kent and Isabel Chien, who will compete at state.
