Knights capture second place at state swim meet
The Newport Knights girls swim team earned a second place finish at the Class 4A state swim and dive championships compiling 257 team points on Nov. 14 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way. Skyline won the state title with 293 team points.
Newport freshman Yulia Groysman captured first place in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:51.21. She also nabbed an individual title in the 500-yard free finishing in first place with a time of 4:56.68. Elisa Fang collected a second place finish in the 50-yard free with a time of 24.08. She also nabbed second place in the 100-yard free clocking a time of 53.12. The 200-yard free relay squad consisting of Maddie Rainey, Jenny Huo, Eva Smerekanych and Groysman earned first place with a time of 1:39.25. Rainey collected a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.09. The 400-yard free relay team of Rachel Nguyen, Smerekanych, Fang and Groysman earned second place with a time of 3:32.87.
Wolverines nab fourth place at state swim meet
The Bellevue Wolverines girls swim squad captured a fourth place finish at the Class 3A state swim and dive championships tallying 191 team points on Nov. 14 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
Bellevue freshman Aneta Wyzga nabbed third place in the 500-yard free tallying a time of 5:07.05 and captured fourth place with a time of 1:54.44 in the 200-yard free. Delora Li nabbed fourth place in the 200-yard intermediate with a time of 2:10.98.
