I noticed that two new members to the Bellevue City Council (one with obvious clout) seem to want to have the last word. Why would the council allow that?
The tunnel option for light rail is without question the most desirable answer. To top it all, Councilman Kevin Wallace‘s plan would route this noisy, screeching people moving machine through the pristine Mercer Slough. That to me is not only callous, but raw. Is that what Bellevue is becoming? It’s already overwhelmed by all these ugly high-rises.
So the tunnel comes in at a higher price. The money will be there, it always is, if something is wanted badly enough. So it takes a little longer. Let us not always think short term (the American way.) Think long term for a change.
Worry about the noise for the businesses while the tunnel is being bored, which would not be a long term project. How do you think the quality of life would be affected by the unlucky residents who have to suffer that noisy machine coming by every seven minutes, with a whistle blowing for extra entertainment!
Besides that, these unfortunate residents could not sell or even rent their homes or condos under this cloud.
Of course no one wants to be exposed to the noise, and no one should be. Is there no other way for the light rail but to make many residents miserable?
Since there is not enough money (as yet) for the tunnel, than lets wait a few more years. It was projected to start in 2020, now it has been moved to 2014.
We will have to find a more acceptable way to move people around expeditiously without making property owners having to bear the negative effect caused by this rail. The “Vision Line” has a very catchy tone to it, but this Vision will not work for the light rail. The whole operation should be put underground, as most cities have done. If we want to be a metropolitan city, lets act that way,
