Newport High School will hold its third annual benefit dinner Dec. 4 to help rebuild schools and lives in Uganda.
The school is a participant in the Schools for Schools program, part of the Invisible Children’s Organization, a non-profit organization based in California working to end the longest-running civil war in African history.
Schools for Schools works towards rebuilding schools in Uganda so that former child soldiers and Ugandan children may achieve their dreams of going to school and creating a better future for themselves.
Not only has war ravaged Uganda for over two decades, but also the war has escalated to affect over 1.8 million people and over 200,000 children abducted as child soldiers. The Lord Resistance Army, the rebel force behind the atrocities, has been labeled a terrorist organization and has yet to be stopped.
Doors open for the benefit at 5 p.m. with the event starting at 5:15. It will be at Newport High School in the Commons.
Tickets are $12 and may be reserved by emailing invisiblechildrennhs@gmail.com with name, phone number, and number of tickets requested and paid for at the door.
The event is semi-formal and dinner will be served. Food will be provided by local Italian restaurants, including Angelo’s Restaurant, Maggiano’s Little Italy, and more.
Donations will be accepted and all proceeds go directly towards rebuilding Anaka Secondary School in Northern Uganda.
Newport High School is located at 4333 128th Ave. SE, Bellevue.
