Newport takes Cactus Jam
Newport won a holiday tournament for the second year in a row, beating Hoover, Ohio 71-66 in overtime in the championship game.
The Knights began the tournament with a 67-57 win over Fortuna, Calif. and followed that with a 71-67 win over Matairie Park Country Day, La. in the semi-finals.
In the championship game, 25 points from tournament MVP Jake Higgins helped Newport to the win.
Will Ferris joined Higgins on the All-Tournament team for the Knights.
Totems win Archbishop Murphy tournament
Sammamish won all three of its games in the Archbishop Murhpy Christmas Tournament, taking the championship 53-43 over Sedro-Woolley.
The Totems took a 60-41 game over 3A Shorewood in the opener and came back to beat the hosts from the 2A Cascade Conference 61-49 in the semi-finals.
Wolverines win one in California
Bellevue finished 1-2 at the Max Preps Holiday classic in Palm Springs, Calif., losing games to Etiwanda, Calif. and De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) and picking up a win over Beverly Hills, Calif.
The Wolverines fell 59-53 to Etiwanda in their opener, before winning a 61-57 game. De La Salle held off Bellevue for a 51-46 victory to claim 11th place.
Jackson became the first non-California school to win the boys tournament, beating Capital Christian by nine points in the championship game.
Interlake falls
Interlake lost an 89-55 game to Bishop Blanchet over the holiday vacation.
