Bellevue trailed by six to upstart 2A school Squalicum after one quarter, but Aaron Bright scored 23 first half points to help the Wolverines take a lead before halftime and beat the Storm 57-50 in the title game of the Les Schwab BC Christmas Classic.
The No. 4 Wolverines picked up 10 points from Nate Sikma and six points from Will Locke in the win.
It was the first loss for Squalicum (6-1), which was led by Michael Greene with 16 points. Patrick Vouet chipped in 13 for the Storm and Caleb Thompson added 11.
Bellevue Christian places eighth
Mike Salazar scored 14 points as Kentlake defeated Bellevue Christian 53-47 in the seventh-eighth place game of the tournament.
Bellevue Christian’s Jake Vandenbrink scored 18 points to lead all scorers in the loss. The freshman also had 14 rebounds. Chris Pattison added 13 points for the Vikings (5-5).
