Beginning Saturday, Interstate 90 travelers should plan for overnight lane closures through Mercer Island due to construction activities. Crews working for WSDOT and Sound Transit are adding HOV lanes to the I-90 outer roadway between Mercer Island and Bellevue. They also are building new I-90 HOV on and off-ramps on Mercer Island and improving I-90 HOV access at Bellevue Way.
Crews will close up to two left lanes of westbound I-90 from East Mercer Way to West Mercer Way starting at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6. Crews close the first lane at 8 p.m. and the second lane at 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. the following morning, Sunday, Sept. 7. During the closure crews will do striping work.
Crews will close westbound I-90 from East Mercer Way to Rainier Avenue South at 11 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7. Westbound traffic will be detoured on to the center roadway at East Mercer Way. Drivers will be able to get back on the I-90 mainline at Rainier Avenue South. During the closure crews will remove existing signage. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
Crews will close the right lane of westbound I-90 from Bellevue Way to East Mercer Way overnight at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7 and at 9 p.m. on Monday Sept. 8. During both closures the lane will reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning. During the closure crews will work on sign placement.
Crews will close up to two lanes of westbound I-90 from West Mercer Way to the Mount Baker Tunnel two nights this week on Tuesday, Sept. 9 and Wednesday, Sept. 10. Each night the first lane will close at 9 p.m. and the second lane will close at 11 p.m. Both lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning. During the closure crews will work on sign placement.
Crews will close westbound I-90 between East Mercer Way and Rainier Avenue South from 11 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11 until 5 a.m. the following morning. Westbound traffic will be detoured to the center roadway at East Mercer Way and exit to the mainline at Rainier Avenue South. During the closure crews will perform sign work.
