Bellevue resident Dr. Yilin Sun has been selected by the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board as a Fulbright Senior Scholar for the 2011/12 Academic Year. Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement, as well as demonstrated leadership in their fields.

Sun is a full-time tenured faculty in Basic & Transitional Studies at South Seattle Community College.

Sun will spend the year in Taiwan, where her primary responsibility will be to coordinate and provide weekly training workshops to young Fulbright English teaching assistants. In addition, she will conduct seminars for graduate students and engage in curriculum and assessment initiatives at the National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei.

“I hope to be an effective cultural ambassador, and provide the teaching assistants with tools to help them better understand Asian students,” she said. “I’m also looking forward to working with local educators and sharing teaching methods and materials as we learn from each other in fostering academic exchanges and cross-cultural communication in the global community.”

Sun has been an instructor in the Seattle Community Colleges since 1994.
