Chef John Howie, the eponymous owner of a newly opened steakhouse in The Shops at The Bravern, will donate $1 to The Young Survival Coalition, an international, non-profit organization dedicated to the concerns and issues unique to young women and breast cancer, for every “Pink Lady” cocktail sold during the month of October.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The Pink Lady is a classic gin-based cocktail that draws its name from the pink color formed by adding grenadine, as well as the egg-white and cream mixture that creates a delicate floating foam on the top. Not just a “girly” drink, the Pink Lady is a favorite with men and women alike
YSC works with survivors, caregivers and the medical, research, advocacy and legislative communities to increase the quality and quantity of life for women diagnosed with breast cancer ages 40 and under.
Founded by three young breast cancer survivors in 1998, who were all under the age of 35 at diagnosis, the coalition has grown into an international group of thousands of survivors and supporters. Based in New York City, one of the organization’s 24 affiliate support groups is in Seattle. Since its inception in 2002, they have provided a supportive environment for over 100 young women with breast cancer in the Seattle area. More information on the local affiliate can be found at www.youngsurvival.org/seattle or on a national level at www.youngsurvival.org
