Dozens of golfers left the Golf Fore Red women’s tournament, held July 26, with hard-won lucre.

But The Hope Heart Institute may have been the tournament’s biggest winner, to the tune of $25,000 for women’s cardiovascular health programs.

The Bellevue-based nonprofit pursues research into prevention and treatment of coronary heart disease. Its Women Take Heart program provides education on heart disease and how it manifests in women.

Heart disease kills a quarter of American women, according to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.

The tournament saw three professional golfers volunteer: Lyndsey Devenish, Erin Menath and Kathy Wake.

This was the seventh year of the Golf Fore Red tournament, which began as a tribute to the mothers of cofounders Shelley French and Mary Robinson. The tournament has partnered with The Hope Heart Institute for the past three years on the latter organization’s Women Take Heart event, held in February.
