The Bellevue PTSA Council has awarded $1,000 scholarships to 11 Bellevue School District students. The students were honored at a celebration at 7 p.m. May 18 at Sammamish High School.
The Michael Riley Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by local PTAs, and is awarded to one student from each of the high schools. It is named in honor of Bellevue’s former superintendent. Winners are chosen based on excellence both in academics and demonstrated community leadership.
The Alice Hurd Memorial Scholarship is funded by a trust established by the Hurd Family to honor their wife and mother, Alice Hurd. She was a tireless and enthusiastic volunteer in PTA and a child advocate. In recognition of her volunteer spirit, the applicants must demonstrate outstanding community service of at least 500 hours.
A donation from the Bellevue Parks Yes! levy campaign has allowed the formation of a new scholarship, for one Bellevue graduate demonstrating a passion for the outdoors, and an awareness of the value the Bellevue parks system brings to the quality of life in the city.
