Bellevue has received a $16,813 grant to buy new fire hose. The money, from Parker, Smith & Feek and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company will be used to replace the old 4-inch wide supply hose with more modern 5-inch hose.
Fire officials say the larger-diameter hose will allow firefighters to pump the necessary amount of water to a fire scene. With this grant, Bellevue will purchase 1,600 feet of new hose.
“These funds, in essence, are going to greatly enhance our department’s ability to provide an effective water supply to our crews battling various types of fires,” said Bellevue Fire Chief Michael Eisner. “Most of our current supply hose is old and has a more limited capacity but the new hose is far safer and gives us the ability to deliver more water. This brings safety to both our crews and our citizens.”
The grant is part of a nationwide philanthropic initiative funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. The program is designed to provided needed equipment, training and educational tools to local fire departments.
“Firefighters face dangers and challenges that most people can’t even imagine,” said Mary Stien with Parker, Smith & Feek. “Safe and effective fire hose is a basic, necessary tool Bellevue firefighters need to make this community safe.”
