Bellevue captures second place at state tourney
The Bellevue Wolverines boys tennis team tallied 24 team points en route to a second place finish at the Class 3A state tournament on May 30 in Kennewick. The Wolverines doubles duo of Hunter Eggers and Daniel Foster captured first place. Bellevue singles player Zach Fleischman nabbed second place and Theodore McDonald collected a sixth place finish. The Wolverines completed an undefeated 2015 regular season. Bellevue won the KingCo and district tournaments as well.

Newport collects first place finish at state tournament
A youthful Newport Knights captured the Class 4A team title, tallying a total of 16 team points at the Class 4A state tournament on May 30 in Richland. Newport’s No. 1 singles player Vivian Glozman finished in second place. The doubles team of Teagan Mach and Simran Ravichandran nabbed fourth place after defeating Skyline’s Julia Liobarski and Jasmine YE 2-0 (6-1, 7-5).

Newport baseball squad loses against South Kitsap in state title game
The South Kitsap Wolves defeated the Newport Knights 5-2 in the Class 4A state championship game on May 30 in Bellingham. The Knights pounded out eight hits in the loss. The Wolves scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning. The Knights defeated the Gig Harbor Tides 2-1 in the Class 4A state semifinal on May 29. Newport finished the 2015 season with an overall record of 23-3.

Sammamish captures state crown
The Sammamish Totems golf team earned first place at the Class 2A state golf tournament, tallying 106 team points at Liberty Lake’s course in Spokane on May 28. University of Washington bound golfer Matt Marrese earned third place individually, shooting a 139 over two rounds. Matt Brooks finished in 12th place, Ryan Park and Aidan Thain tied for 20th place individually as well.

Newport loses against Gig Harbor in state title game
The Newport Knights memorable 2015 season came to an end courtesy of a 10-3 loss to the Gig Harbor Tides in the Washington Water Polo championship game on May 23 in University Place. Newport defeated Wilson 12-3 in the semifinals to reach the state title game. Annalise Nahlin scored a game-high five goals in the semifinal matchup against Wilson.
