Bellevue pummels Mount Si

The two-time defending 3A KingCo tournament champions opened this season with a pasting of conference foe Mount Si, using 23 points from Shelby Cansler and 15 more from Erin McGowan in a 79-23 win. McGowan hit four of her six three-pointers on the night in the win.

Bellevue’s 24 first quarter points were more than the Wildcats mustered throughout the entire contest.

Interlake downed by LW

Interlake lost its season opener in girls basketball, falling 29-27 to Fife.

The Saints also lost a 39-31 game to Lake Washington and a 47-29 contest to Cedarcrest.

The Saints pulled within a point at the halftime break against the 2A Kangs, but were outscored 21-15 in the final two frames.

Newport unbeaten

The Knights opened the season with a 50-46 win over 3A KingCo foe Liberty behind 15 points from Chiara Victor and 14 from Anna Crabtree.

Victor finished with a game high 13 in the conference opener against Ballard, a 37-26 Newport win.

Totems win two

Sammamish picked up a pair of wins over private school competition from Bellevue, beating Forest Ridge 69-44 and Bellevue Christian 46-33.

The Totems dropped the conference opener 69-28 to Mercer Island.
