Bellevue Police late Saturday identified 30-year-old resident Song Wang as a suspect in the death of a woman found by firefighters March 31 in an Avalon Meydenbauer apartment unit that appeared intentionally set on fire. Police believe he may have fled to Oregon.

Firefighters responded to an active sprinkler alarm at the Avalon Meydenbauer on the 10400 block of Northeast Second Street at 9:19 p.m. Tuesday night, evacuating the building. Firefighters found water damage in a fifth-floor unit, leading them to the sixth-floor unit above where the alarm originated. Inside, firefighters found a small fire and the body of a deceased woman, according to a BPD news release.

Firefighters contacted police, who responded and determined the woman had injuries “consistent with homicidal violence,” according to the release.

Bellevue detectives and arson investigators with the Bellevue Fire Department were on the scene throughout the night Tuesday and Wednesday, detectives returning to the area around the apartment complex on Bellevue Way with about 60 members of King County Search and Rescue on Saturday morning, the search lasting several hours and expanding to Main Street. Police later named Wang as a suspect 11 p.m. Saturday.

There does not appear to be a Wang listed as a resident at the Avalon Meydenbauer.
