County to offer tour of Cedar Hills landfill

King County will offer free public tours of its Cedar Hills Regional Landfill in Maple Valley on Sept. 10. This tour is designed for adults; tours for school-aged children and school groups can be arranged by calling 206-296-4490.

King County will offer free public tours of its Cedar Hills Regional Landfill in Maple Valley on Sept. 10. This tour is designed for adults; tours for school-aged children and school groups can be arranged by calling 206-296-4490.

The last operating landfill in King County, Cedar Hills encompasses 920 acres and accepts about 800,000 tons of garbage each year from King County, excluding the cities of Seattle and Milton.

The tour begins at 9 a.m. and lasts about one hour. Reservations are required and must be made by Sept. 6. To reserve a spot, or to request accommodations, call 206-296-4490, TTY Relay: 711.

Parking is provided at the landfill, 16645 228th Ave. SE, Maple Valley, and participants will board a Metro bus for the guided tour. The bus is wheelchair accessible.

To ensure safety, tour participants must wear closed toe footwear and adhere to all traffic signs at the landfill.
