Two Bellevue residents died from injuries sustained when a two-alarm fire erupted in a downtown condominium Monday night. A third person is in serious condition.

Approximately 25 units responded to the fire in the 100 block of 100th Ave. NE. around 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 24. Firefighters rescued multiple people from the 21-unit building.

Two victims suffered cardiac arrest and another two were being treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns, according to the fire department. Firefighters and paramedics were able to attain pulses on the two cardiac arrest victims, but they later died at Harborview Medical Center. No firefighters were injured in the blaze.

“We are continuing to combat the fire at this point, but most of it is under control,” fire department spokesperson Ryan Armstrong said around 9 p.m. that evening.

The Red Cross, the department chaplain and other fire personnel assisted displaced residents from the condominium. The complex is considered a total loss at this time and 40 residents have been displaced.

“The Red Cross will continue to provide support as long as it is needed. Recovery can be a confusing, emotionally draining and a complicated process,” the organization said in a statement.

Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the fire.
