Registration is now open for the ninth annual Cycle the WAVE event.

Registration is now open for the ninth annual Cycle the WAVE event.

The Women Against Violence Everywhere (WAVE) Foundation’s “Cycle the WAVE” is a celebratory and empowering non-competitive ride for women of all ages. The event brings together riders from communities all over Washington to raise awareness and funds for victims of domestic violence. It’s the largest all-women organized bicycle ride in the state.

The event will take place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18 at Bellevue College, 3000 Landerholm Circle SE.

The first 1,000 registered riders and walkers will receive a special dri-fit Cycle the WAVE t-shirt and signature water bottle.

Along the route riders enjoy many special features, including festive themed rest stops, flowers for their helmet and local cheerleading squads offering up encouragement. There is also a celebratory finish line festival that features gourmet food from local restaurants, plus a spa area offering complimentary massage. New this year, the event will feature a family friendly “Walk the WAVE” for those who want to participate in the event on two legs rather than two wheels.

Participants can choose from several fun and challenging routes with options for all types/levels of cyclists and walkers, including:

• “Little Sister” 11 mile route — A great route for anyone who can ride a bike

• “Girly Girl” 30 mile route — A signature ride around Lake Sammamish

• “Middle Sister” 45 mile new route — The “kick it up a notch” option

• “Burly Girl” 71 mile route (new this year) — Includes 3800 feet of climbing for the seasoned cyclist

• “Walk the WAVE” 5.8km walk— featuring reduced registration fee and fun rest stop

Established in 2011, The WAVE Foundation focuses on education and awareness and raising funds for the domestic violence agencies doing the important work across Washington state. It aims to end domestic violence and break the cycle of abuse by focusing our efforts on increasing awareness and educating our youth about this important issue.

The foundation has raised more than $1 million to support agencies that provide services to families and youth affected by domestic violence.
