Bail of $1 million has been set for Adan Rodriguez-Rodriguez, 36, accused of killing Emilio Perez-Oliva last week at an office park in Bellevue’s Overlake area.

Perez-Oliva was found in a wooded area on the property of Unigard Insurance Company located at 15801 N.E. 24th St. The police investigation at the crime scene revealed that Perez-Oliva had been beaten and strangled.

Perez-Oliva had over $700 dollars in his wallet that was left behind and robbery did not appear to be a factor in the victim’s death, according to papers filed in the case.

According to a report by Bellevue Police Det. Robert Thompson, investigation found that Perez-Oliva got off work about 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 20 from a restaurant in the Factoria area. The investigation further found that Perez-Oliva stopped at the Mexi-Mart in the Crossroads area around 9 p.m. with a store surveillance camera showing him buying some beer.

The surveillance camera also showed Perez-Oliva was with an unknown man. The store owner told police that both men were outside the store drinking beer when he closed at about 9:20 p.m.

On April 21, surveillance video showed the unknown man who was with Perez-Oliva the day before came back into the store by himself at 3:09 p.m. He came into

the store 10 minutes before the police were notified that a body had been found at the Unigard Insurance Company.

According to Thompson’s statement, the unkown male began talking to the store clerk and he found out she knew Perez-Oliva’s wife. The unkown male told the store clerk not to tell the wife that he had been in the store with Perez-Oliva the night before because if something happened to Perez-Oliva they might blame him.

Upon questioning by Det. Thompson, Rodriguez-Rodriguez allegedly admitted that he killed Perez-Oliva with by striking him in the face with his fists and then

taking Perez-Oliva’s belt and strangling him around the neck until he was dead. Rodriguez-Rodriguez stated that the reason he killed him was because it was self defense and that Perez-Oliva said he wanted to kill him. Rodriguez-Rodriguez also allegedly reported the location of the crime scene during his confession, according to Det. Thompson’s written statement.

Documents filed in the case also note that a shoe print on the victim’s face matched the shoe print design on the pair of shoes that Rodriguez-Rodriguez was wearing.

King County Prosecutors have until the end of the day Thursday, April 30 to file formal charges against Rodriguez-Rodriguez.
