More than 1,600 marijuana plants from two residential, illegal pot growing operations were uncovered by the Eastside Narcotics Task Force and Bellevue Police Department on April 20.

Detectives reportedly received an anonymous tip about the two homes in the 15000 block of SE 43rd Place and the 1000 block of 158th Place SE.

They issued a search warrant on the Phantom Lake and Eastgate residences last week, uncovering 1,649 plants. Both homes were heavily modified and set up for the sole purpose of manufacturing marijuana, according to police.

The Phantom Lake residence is located within half a block of Phantom Lake Elementary, just as the Eastgate residence is located half a block from Eastgate Elementary.

Law enforcement officials arrested three adults for violation of the Uniform Controlled Substances Act. A 53-year-old Bellevue resident was interviewed and released pending charges.

Just last month, Bellevue Police and Fire responded to a house fire that resulted from an illegal marijuana grow in the 14200 block of SE 38th St. That homeowner is currently working with the city to meet code requirements before the power may be restored.

“These illegal operations are especially concerning in residential areas where more power is brought into a home than it is capable of supporting, thus creating an increased risk of fire,” the Bellevue Police Department said in a statement. “None of the locations possessed appropriate medical marijuana provider paperwork or were licensed producers/processors with the state of Washington.”
