State Rep. Patty Kuderer’s first bill was enacted into law on March 29 when Gov. Jay Inslee signed House Bill 2425. The bill changes all references of “massage practitioners” to “massage therapists” in state law.

“This is a pretty straightforward bill that updates our state laws with common language used today in massage therapy fields,” said Kuderer (D-Clyde Hill), of serves in the 48th Legislative District that includes Bellevue.

Kuderer has three other policies that she championed during the 2016 legislative session awaiting the governor’s signature:

• HB 2371 will make our court system more efficient by removing mandatory filing and printing requirements that no longer make sense in the digital age.

• HB 2741, another bill that updates outdated language in state law, clarifies the roles of fiscal agents, the state treasurer, and local government treasurers.

• A companion bill to Kuderer’s HB 2604 is also on the governor’s desk awaiting his signature. That measure will protect sensitive government data from hackers and cybercriminals by limiting disclosure of certain employee background check information. The bill awaiting action by the governor is SB 6356.

This is Kuderer’s first legislative session as a member of the House of Representatives.
