Overlake Hospital Medical Center celebrated its 50th anniversary with a landmark gift from its fundraising arm.

Overlake Auxiliaries raised $1,014,531 at its annual Bandage Ball gala and auction on April 24 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Bellevue, surpassing its goal of $1 million.

“We knew it was a lofty goal – and it appears everyone else in the room knew it too – and they did everything could to help us achieve it in this extra-special year,” said Overlake Auxiliaries executive director David Aubrey.

Patty Edwards started out the evening with a $50,000 donation, and Kemper Freeman, Jr. and his wife Betty quickly matched that amount.

All fundraising money from the event goes toward patient-care programs at the hospital.

Sponsorship from the gala was also up 50 percent from the previous year.
